aniRAGE! Year in review: Miroku’s Favorites list

Greetings and Salutations, Everybody! As most of you well know, today is the very last day of the year 2K10! Having seen Zeke list his favorite albums/Soundtracks made me want to take a moment to list some of my favorites of this year as well! So, without further adieu, I’m going to list a few of my favorites (From songs to Cons to moments shared) from this year:

Favorite Song of this year:

I probabaly have to say that my absolute favorite song from this year has got to be “Monster” by Skillet. It’s an amazing song from start to end, chaulk full of great rifts, an awesome beat, and enough energy to match a 12 pack of Red-Bull! Can’t tell you how many times I found myself jamming to this song during the year… Whether it was in going places or trying to psyche myself up during excercise or even when I was feeling a bit down. It’s just WAY to awesome of a song and I recommend checking it out, if you haven’t already.

Favorite Movie of this year:

I haven’t seen “Tron” or “Voyage of the DawnTreader” yet, but I figure that I can safely say that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt.1” was probably the BEST movie I have seen! I’m not a huge fan of the illustrious “Mr. Potter” but, I have always enjoyed the movies. This last one, however, really blew me away and I loved the fact that they played back on events and conversations that were had back from a few movies ago and how this transformation of Harry from “Young Innocence” to “Dark Messiah” is coming to it’s fruition here. Not to mention that the telling of the ‘Deathly Hallows” story is and AMAZING treat in the midst of the story. Hands down, the BEST of the “Harry Potter” chronicles that has yet to been released… Still looking forward to Part 2 ^_^!

Favorite VideoGame of this year:

Call of Duty: Black Ops….What can I say about this game that hasn’t been already stated? It TRULY is an AMAZING gaming experience! I really, REALLY have loved playing this game and with it’s multiple play modes, customizations, Zombies, and the “Easter Egg” at it’s ending…. I have to say this has been and continues to be one of the funnest games I have yet to play!

Favorite Manga of this year:

I’ve enjoyed and am still enjoying quite a few manga’s this year… But, I feel that the best I have read or, rather, completed this year was probably “Full Metal Alchemist”… I mean, WHAT AN INCREDIBLE STORY!!! Hiromu Arakawa is a brilliant manga writer (if I do say so myself) and the series, with it’s many twists and turns and epic battles, really earned a place in my heart. I can say with sincerity and fondness that the story and its characters were truely A-list material and just stunning both in the reading and in the art! A must read if you haven’t already or aren’t already reading it!

Favorite Convention of this year:

Good gravy! We’ve been to QUITE a few in this year. It’s hard to say which one i liked the most because I really, REALLY liked them all! But, If I had to throw out just one convention that, in my mind, just stood an inch taller then all the rest… I think I would have to say that Metro-Con probably was my favorite again… True, we didn’t perform much there, but that may be just some of the charm that places it above the others. I’ve had a blast EVERYWHERE we went AND being able to do our improve with the likes of “the Nostalgia Critic” and “Ego-Raptor” or Hosting a Ball with “Anime Belle” are events that I shall NEVER EVER forget! But, there is something about Metro-Con that really puts a smile on my face and alot of joy in my heart. I always meet new and interestig people there and deeply enjoy the events and all the folks I’ve met… And, HEY! I’ve did something I never thought I’d be able to do. I was able to give blood to help people whom need it to live. Honestly, I’m scared of needles and the fact thta I worked up the courage for this has been a SUPREME accomplishment for me this year! It really was an amazing con and I’m TOTALLY looking forward to go back again this year… But,it better watch out. Exp and ShadoCon were REALLY, REALLY high up there!

And, there ya go! These are my favorites for the year! There is alot more I could post here, but I think I’ll hang back a little. However, I sincerely hope that you all had a WONDERFUL year and an even better year here in the next! God Bless you all and a very Happy New Year from myself and all of us here at aniRAGE.com!

aniRAGE Year In Review: Zeke on Music

aniRAGE Year In Review: Zeke on Music

This year was, in all truth, a great year for music. But for me personally, I found it to be more about discovering older music rather than embracing some of the newer works released. That being said, I do have a choice for both Album of the Year and Song of the Year. I also have an honorable mention, which would have won album of the year, but I’ll get to that in a bit.

Song of the Year: Ceelo Green – F**k You.

When he was just the vocal talents of Gnarls Barkley, I thought he was an amazing talent. And his newest Solo Album “The Lady Killer” only proves that. I might be tempted to go ahead and give him album of the year…but honestly I haven’t heard the album yet. However, his song F**k You is so damn catchy and so damn true! It starts off with something that just about everyone can understand: heartbreak. He goes on and on about everything that he tried to do to please the girl of his dreams, but to no avail. However, what makes this song really great is that instead of being a sappy song about unrequited love, he goes on to say “Ya know what, Fuck You”, and moves on. Very inspirational in a very catchy, very awesome package. If you haven’t heard this song, check it out. And it’s Radio-Friendly version “Forget You” isn’t too bad either.

Album of the Year: Scott Pilgrim vs The World Soundtrack and Original Score.

Ok, so maybe I’m starting to get a bit biased, with Scott Pilgrim winning awards in Video Game, Movie, and now Music. But regardless, this is a very catchy album. There are a lot of great songs on these albums, and all of the “original” songs that Beck wrote are performed both by Beck himself, AND by Sex Bob-Omb. And truth be told, I like the Sex Bob-Omb versions better. The only strike against this album is that it doesn’t include Brie Larson’s cover of Metric’s “Black Sheep”, which was amazing. Again, another cover from the movie that I enjoy better than the original (though that being said, the originals are all good). While it may seem like cheating to give the award to both the Sound Track and Musical Score, in my mind they go hand in hand, and I even went in and edited it on my MP3 player so that they are the same album. Even the small little techno remixes that make up generic background music are catchy, and I find myself zoning out while listening to them. Next thing I know, my work is done, or my drive is over, and I feel pumped. Definitely a great set of albums to pick up.

Honorable Mention/Album I Discovered in 2010: Chevelle – Sci Fi Crimes.

This album, which isn’t eligible for Album of the Year since it came out in 2009, did something that is a rarity. There is not a single track on this album that I don’t like. From begining to end, I love it. Usually I deem an album “great” if I like at least half of the songs on it. Previously, the album that was doing the best as far as song I disliked was Rise Against’s album “Appeal to Reason” where I only disliked one song. With zero songs ever getting the skip, this album has taken the top spot in my book. I knew of this album upon it’s release, but I didn’t really listen to it in it’s entirety until 2010, so I gets my Honorable Mention award, coupled with “Best Album I Discovered in 2010” award. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to Chevelle, or this album, do yourself a favor and pick it up.

And there we go! The aniRAGE Year In Review is complete! Or at least, my portion is! It’s been a great year, with lots of awesome happenings. I hope you enjoyed my Top Games, Best Movie, and Favorite Songs of 2010! 2011 has a lot to live up to, but I bet that it’s going to be great!

As always, stay tuned to aniRAGE.com for more awesome articles, videos, reviews, and more! We hope to see you back!

The Conclusion of Jeff Bridgemas! – True Grit

As 2010 retires for the year we look back at awesome movies and video games of the year, as I havent really done a Video game review of 2010 and leaving that up to Sibby, I will finish what I started as I call the famous Holiday, Jeff Bridgemas. The Last movie of my mini-series that I will review is True Grit. A remake of the 1969 classic starring John Wayne, Jeff Bridges plays the role of Rooster Cogburn a rough and tough rugged Us Marshal who has a drinking problem. The whole story is not about him, but is about a girl named mattie who has a vengance against a outlaw named Tom Chaney who shot and killed her father, – Mattie finds rooster and hires him to track down the killer and is met up with a texas ranger named LaBoeuf who wants chaney for his own purposes as he was also wanted in texas, The unlikely trio, a girl who continues on against the wills of rooster and Laboeuf as each character happens to have there ”Grit” Tested.

Characters: The characters in the storyline really kept it going in a good pace – Jeff Bridges Gruffness to Matt Damon’s good ol Texas boy style to the rough outlawness of Lucky Ned as well as Tom Chaney, But the one character that really stole the show was definitely Mattie Ross – Played by Hailee Steinfield for being that young, and appearing in a coen brothers movie, AND holding her own with acting with those vast lines of dialogue, I would be really suprised if she did not recieve any nominations for awards next year.

Music: Awesome, Must get the soundtrack

Plot: for a western its pretty much not edge of your seat action but it kept the storyline going real well, a few graphic scenes, and some hilarious Humor, you need to at least see it once

Comparison of Old Vs New: This is the tough grit of the film – the orginal was right along the plot of the book, and the new remake was a nod to the book as well, the only picky bit was in the original and book, Laboeuf happens to die from the rock blow to his head, in the new film he happens to survive.

Summary: If you quite enjoy the western please go see this movie, it was quite enjoyable and was hilarious at times as well.. 9/10

And there you have it! Jeff Bridgemas has been completed I have left out certain movies starring Jeff Bridges like Starman and The Fisher King, but I have yet to see them, but they are Definitely in my queue for netflix to check out later on and possibly review later,

Dont think im done yet! Its a New Year.. which means New Reviews.. and New Movies! Next up on my dish is a Five film review or as I call it..

Coen New Year.. – Coming soon! 5 Movie Reviews of Coen Brothers Movies, Fargo, O Brother where art thou? , Raising Arizona, The Hudsucker Proxy and My personal favorite, No Country for Old Men.

Till Next time kids! Be safe, Enjoy movies and Merry Bridgemas!

By the way, this is off topic to my reviews but sibby and kirby and monk, if I hear any of you say the word Epic in any of your posts again.. im going to make a Epic Fail Jar you have to put money in for every time you say those stupid words XD

S.L.O.T.W. – Epic Fanservice Poker Night!

So you’ve had a hard day at work, you feel like having a quiet night on the town, and you have no friends to accompany you.  What do you do?  Well why not tempt fate and go out for a quiet night of poker with familiar faces and make some new friends.

That’s what Telltale Games decided to give you with their new game (as well as our Sweet Link of the Week!), a smorgasbord of quiet, casual fun, combined with epic amounts of fan service all rolled into one!  Well what makes this game really sweet, you may ask?  Well it’s the cast of characters that join you at the poker table for some Texas Hold’ Em.  Max from the “Sam and Max Series” series, Strong Bad from Homestarrunner.com, The Heavy from TF2, and Tycho Brae from Penny Arcade.  For someone like me, that’s a fan service explosion right off the bat!  4 great characters, whether from popular culture, or video games, get together and play poker against you!

But that’s not all that happens.  Telltale took it up a step further and included some great dialogue within the game!  You’ll hear some riduculous conversations between the characters, all of which stay in character even throughout the game!  Best of all, all the characters are voiced with the same voices as you remember them from all their games and cartoons!

As for gameplay… well yes it’s standard No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, but the game is driven and influenced by each character’s personalities and mannerisms.  This makes for some pretty epic and hillarious conversations between each other, as well as some VERY interesting game play!  I’ll look into writing a proper review for this game at a later point!

Oh yeah, speaking of which, someone might be wondering where you can get this game at?  Well you can get this fun little game for 5 bucks off of Steam!  And for all the character dialogue and poker, that’s a pretty amazing price!  And with it, you have the chance to unlock sweet items to use in TF2 as well!

And for those wanting to look before you touch, here’s our chap TotalBiscuit playing the game!

Till next time!

Editor’s Note Christmas

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=173542

Since this Saturday is a special day, I decided to look for an appropriate video this time. While looking, I found this interesting collaberation. Since the video is over twelve minutes long I will be breaking it up into the multiple tracks played.

Track 1: Santa Clause is coming to Town

This song felt like a good introuction to a christmas video. It gets you into that spirit to the point where you almost start dancing along. The video is full of edits and effects ranging from quality masking to beautiful photo-manipulation. Seeing so many different animes with Christmas images reels you in so easily. The few off beats and lip-sync issues are barely noticed and don’t deter from the enjoyment. After seeing this, you are just ready for anything else to come and fill that holiday cheer

Track 2: Nuttin’for Christmas

Just hearing the opening lines already tell you that this is gonna be amusing . A simple video of bad kids getting punished, so far I’m right. The series chosen fit well, as if you can just look at the kids and go “Maybe next year kid.”Some may even giggle from nostalgic pranks they pulled *cough*. Even with only a fraction of all the previous edits, it still entertains and keep the cheer going.

Track 3: Last Christmas

This is where it get complicated. The idea is a good one, but its a good generic idea. I expected a little more of a seasonal feeling. The only thing that felt like christmas was one scene of snow. This probably could have been done with any other heartbreak song.  This felt out of place for a Christmas collab.

Track 4: A Lovely Way to Spend Christmas

Ok, this has two different parts in it. The first part gives off the idea of childhood friends now lovers enjoying the holidays. Spending time with the one you care about brings that cheer back, it really makes you feel the love they have. This is a good idea that should have gone through the whole song. Part two is annoys me. It starts of with a simple couple, you think “ok another pair enjoying the season.” Then it shows a woman who seems to be pregnant, based on her actions, waiting for someone. If I hadn’t already seen the anime, I would have thought something was wrong. Later you find out the guy left her for the first girl you see. Dick move dude. I makes me think, is this really the way you would want to spend christmas?! Which is why the first part should have been the whole track.

Track 5: Kidnap the Sandy Claws

Now with my cheer all over the place in confusion, will this pick it back up? let’s see, chibis talking about catching santa…you now have my attention. So the idea is very funny, works well with the anime, and would probably been even funnier if better executed. Mismatched voices are really distracting and confusing by having one character with multple voices or vice versa. Certain scenes are a little slow with the beat of the song. After the song is finished, I’m slightly amussed and ready for the next song, but this one isn’t done? It actually uses the rest of the episode…why? It felt really superfluous, as if it was tacked on to lengthen the video.

Track 6: Carol of the Bells (Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12-24)

Now that the name correction is out of the way, I forsee a fight since this song can go to any fight in the snow. Again, this didn’t feel very Christmas like. It felt like another generic fight thrown in because it was snowing. I get dissapointed at these, yes it is well synced, but not what I should have gotten. Just like track 3, you could replace any anime and it would be the same video. This felt out of place as well.

Track 7: A william Wobbler Christmas

Now about that confusion thing, yeah this video goes full force. I really don’t know what to say, I think if I had seen the anime I would have a better understanding. To sum it up, “You think like a fish?!” Let’s just move on

Track 8: 12 Gatsu no love song

Gackt and Christmas…………well, its the last song so lets see this through. So we are starting off with Christmas shopping, so good so far. The we take a sharp left turn to lesbians getting married and riding off in a sleigh…WHAT?! Did I miss something? what was the relevance here? Maybe it’s the whole being with the one you love. I can except that, but just going from shopping to marriage?!that just threw me completely out of wack.

Overall: The different tracks range immensely from fantastic to just plain generic. Some videos really get you in the Christmas mood, but others are just too confusing or boring. This collab should have been planned out a little bit more. It had potential with the intro but just weaves back and forth to the point of annoyance. It’s worth seeing once in a while, but best to skip to your favorite tracks.

Signed,
Betavash

One more day: A Christmas list of Things to do!

Can you believe it? ONE MORE DAY! Just one more day and it will be Christmas once again! We hope everyone is doing well this holiday season. But, you know, with one day left… That DOESN’T mean that you can take it easy now… Nope! There are still AT LEAST 10 more things to do and, as we feel it’s your right to know, we figured we’d let you in on what, exactly, is left to be done! So, here is our list of the Top 10 things that are left to be done BEFORE Santa comes down the chimney tonight!

Top 10 things you should do before tomorrow (as brought to you by aniRAGE!)

10.) Limber up!

Think you have stamina? Think you have speed? Well, you ain’t NOTHING! Not when compared to your 5 year old sister/brother. Our Scientists have determined that, in kids from 1 to 92, Yule-tide hormones increase at an alarming rate on Christmas; endowing the host of such “cheer” genes with supernatural (if not almost Godlike) abilities! So, if you want to be the one to get the “Good Spot” by the tree, then you’ll want to start by getting your body ready for the big day. And, if you haven’t already discovered it, you can always try out the “12 days of Christmas” Workout! The link to which is RIIIIGGGGHHHT here:

http://www.crossfitvirtuosity.com/articles/12-days-of-christmas-workouts/

9.)Check for “Santa Hazards”.

Up on the housetop, reindeer fall! Stuck is good ol’ Santa Claus! What a bummer it would be if you had to bury 8 reindeer in the back yard or called the fire Dept. to pull a fat man out of the chimney… So, make sure that Chimney’s are clear, roof and walkways are de-iced (if necessary), and that all safty hazards to that Jolly elf and his crew are squared away.

8.)Activate your Anti-Grinch Defense System!

He’s a mean one… Mr. GRINCH! He really is a heel! And, unless you want him to sneak in and steal YOUR Christmas, I suggest setting up a little “Security”. Now, here at aniRAGE!, we’ve devised our own solution which is really quite keen! It’s slick and will do the trick for someone so mean. Start off with a tripwire. Attached to it empty cans. Then, dig yourself a Tiger pit with spikes, on which, he’ll land. Or if that seems to much work, we have yet another trick! Let him inside and when he’s not looking, offer him an RKO like Rick! … Ere, Zeke…

7.)Equip Festive Garb.

It’s the holidays! And, being that means that there is NO better time to make yourself look ABSOLUTELY ridiculous! So, what are you waiting for? All of your local Grocery Stores, “Best Buys”, book stores, gas stations, and peddling hobo’s are selling garments. Hats and caps and holiday underpants! All of which start at the low price of a dollar and up! Don’t have the money or a ride to get to places? No Problem! Just grab an empty box (Or large container), cut out holes for the arms and head, Wrap it (leaving the holes for arms and head unhindered), and put a bow on your head! YOU can be the greatest gift someone gets this year!

6.)Here you come, a-wassailing!

What’s more customary or heart-warming then a group of talentless indivduals going doorstep to doorstep, murdering many a classic and sacred holiday tune? I just can’t think of anything! AND, as a bonus, if you sing “We wish you a Merry Christmas” and get to the second and third verse, you can make demands for Figgy-Pudding… Or, maybe cash. (Note: “aniRAGE!” does NOT condone the misuse of holiday songs and/or Extortion in ANY form. “aniRAGE!” is NOT responsible for any verbal abuse, physical damage, arrests, or any other negative outcomes encountered by any parties whom might choose to do such terrible, terrible things!)

5.)Time for Coco!

After wailing like a cat (and possibly being hit by a boot for it), it’s time to kick back and enjoy something warm. Coco is very customary at this time of year, too! We recommend having yourself a nice hot glass. But, not to hot. Don’t want or need any third degree burns… Or Lawsuites… (Note: “aniRAGE!” is ALSO not resposnible for any burns/allergies inflicted by the consumption of overly warmed cocoa-based beverages. Drink at your own risk.)

4.) Hang out your stockings… And gather all of your gifts together!

Remember that “limbering up” thing we mentioned above? We’ll if you’re just to lazy (or need the extra Security), we would highly recommend goign ahead and hunting for everything that is yours under the tree… And, stacking it all in a nice, neat little pile. Note, this might be difficult to do due to hidden surprises and parents whom will bash you with a spatula if you stop at the tree to long… But, if you can succeed, it will double your ability to get to all that is rightfully yours and plow on through.

3.) Set out offerings to the great “Red One”.

Customarily, it’s cookies and milk for Mr. Kringle… But, in todays bold new world (and with close to 7,000,000,000 people on the planet to possibly visit) Santa MAY just need a pick-me-up. After all, he isn’t called “Jolly OLD saint Nicolas” for NOTHING! So, we recommend that a community gathering should be had through out each city of the world and at every 2,000,000,000th home: an Energy drink should be substituted. We would say “At every home” but, it’s only recommended to drink 3 a day TOPS! And, at this age in his life, Santa’s possibly a little “Caffiene Sensitive”… So, it might just be safer this way.

2.) Holiday Movie Hoe-Down!

Know what’s good with that CoCo we mentioned earlier? MOVIES! But, not just ANY movies. It’s Christmas FOR PETE’S SAKE! Flip on the tube (or hit Red-Box) and get yourself some Holiday films! Or, pull something out of the collection! (Editor’s note: I personally recommend “Nitemare before Christmas”, “Rudolph: the Red-nose Reindeer”, and “Frosty, the Snowman”.)

1.) Stop to smell the Ginger Bread…

Now, I know that there will be QUITE a few of you whom don’t like gingerbread… It’s a play off of an OLD expression. But, seriously, take a moment to breath and think back fondly on all the things you’ve done till now, on all of the great friends and family you have, and the many-MANY gifts and opprotunities that have been made available and given unto you this year. Ponder the meaning of the season! Call up above stated “Family” and “Friends”. Go visit, if you can! And, in visiting, I would like to say that we all hope that you’ll keep coming back to visit us here at aniRAGE.com! And, from all of us, to all of you, we sincerely hope and wish you a very merry Christmas…

For always and forever,
aniRAGE!

Sibby reviews games-Demo Special

It came to my attention yesterday that 2 very special demos came out on the PSN. Those being Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect 2.

So after playing both of them time for a review of sorts

Dead Space 2

Sequel to the original Dead Space, players are once again given control of Issac Clark, who this time has gone crazy from his encounter with the marker at the end of the first game.

The demo played very well, and was sadly the exact demo from E3. Which isn’t a bad thing but it stops exactly where the E3 one did. Controls were fluid, the atmosphere really worked for the games advantage of creepiness, and overall was a good play. I am looking forward to 1.25.11, when the game launches.

Mass Effect 2

A port of the 360 version built with a new engine that uses the PS3s power. It was fun. Controls were good, graphics looked like a PS3 game. That’s all I can really say about it seeing how I never had the chance to play the original or the 360 version. I am looking forward to seeing how the game will play when it’s released.

What Happens when you spend 14 hours in two theme parks back to back with Dashi? He gets leg muscle pain for the next two days, and a awesome experience!

Hulk Roller Coaster: …OMG from the takeoff to the finish it is a INCREDIBLE COASTER If you got balls please ride it.. it was the greatest experience I had at the island, the only issue I had was I had to ride in the modified seats because of my shoulders, and they only had two per coaster, so I had to get nudged to the side for one ride while I waited for another coaster to come back so I could sit in it, but after the wait, the coaster was quite extreme will ride again.. The Simpsons Ride: Now I was skeptical about this ride, I thought It was going to suck and be a stupid motion simulator ride.. it is.. but it was one of the best damn rides I have ever been on! nonstop laughs and everything else! I want to go back on this so bad, but dont want to pay extra to get into two parks at once, might have to buy a annual pass for just this.. 10/10

Hollywood Rip Ride Rock-it : Your next time my friend.. next time.. Did not get to ride on as I was coastered out.. and by the time I was exhausted and my legs hurt and my back hurt..

Results of Universal studios: Good rides, I wish they still had back to the future, and there are a few rides and shows that i still need to go see at that park 7.5/10

Overall summary: Excellent, excellent excellent, and I might have to get the meal deal plan next time as that might be cheaper to do definitely.. I will put my munies into a annual pass on this then at Disney World.. BUT WAIT, IM GOING TO DISNEY  IN JANUARY!

SO STAY TUNED NEXT TIME KIDS! As Dashi will have a 2parter review of Disney as he goes to Disney World! and Hollywood Backlot studios!

Till next time!
